Weekend Camping Checklist UK: What to Pack Before You Go

Camping collection at The Stocked Shop

A good camping trip usually starts with a simple checklist. Whether you are heading to a campsite for one night or planning a longer weekend outdoors, packing by category makes it much easier to avoid leaving something important behind.

1. Shelter

Your tent is the obvious starting point, but remember the smaller items that make it usable: poles, pegs, guylines and a mallet if required. Check the forecast before travelling and make sure the shelter is suitable for the conditions you expect.

If you are still choosing a tent, browse our camping tents, including compact and larger family options.

2. Sleeping gear

  • Sleeping bag appropriate for the expected temperature
  • Camping mat, air bed or mattress
  • Pillow or compact travel pillow
  • Extra blanket for colder evenings

3. Cooking and food

Plan meals before you pack. Depending on your campsite rules and setup, useful items can include a camping stove, cookware, cutlery, mugs, a cool box and reusable water bottles. Keep food stored securely and follow the campsite's fire and cooking rules.

4. Clothing

UK weather can change quickly, so layers are useful. Pack a waterproof outer layer, suitable footwear, spare socks and something warm for the evening even if the daytime forecast looks mild.

5. Lighting and practical extras

  • Torch or head torch
  • Spare batteries or a charged power bank
  • First-aid kit
  • Rubbish bags
  • Toiletries and hand sanitiser
  • Maps or downloaded offline directions where useful
